Because I understood that it is better to apply texture onto sided part, I have splited few part of my aircraft as follows: I have designed a full single part for the wheel house/enclosure (main fix gear from rutan Long Eze). Then I have splited this part into two separate parts. A left side one and a right side one. In order to apply left texture and right texture.
By the end the visual result is poor. In fact before to split the part the top edge was smoothly round. After to split the part, the edge (middle line between the two half-parts) is not smoothly round any more but angular! I have the same problem with the pilot head part splited into left and right side.
How to proceed to get a smoothly round edge for splited part ?

You'd better not split the part. Instead, do the following: 1- First, select the whole fuselage and apply texture and mapping as if it was, say, the right side (by doing this, the left side will get a mirrored right side texture). 2- Then, collapse the modifier stack. 3- Go into polyigon sub-object selection and select all those polygons belonging to the left side. Make sure you do not select any polygon belonging to the right side (check "ignore bakfacing") 4- Once all left side polygons are selected, apply texture and UVW mapping to this selection (or, if right and left side textures are placed in the same bmp, you only need to apply UVW map).
As you see, different maps are applied to each half, but the part is never splitted, thus the smoothe transition is maintained.
If the split is already done and you cannot go back to a previously saved version, there is still a way to get rid of the "unsmoothness"; place a message here and I'll try to explain it.
